Steps To Sand Drywall Fast

Below, you will find the proper steps that you need to follow to sand drywall fast.

Step 1: Put All the Tools in One Place

Before you start your DIY task, take some time, and assemble everything. Take all the equipment and put it in the room where you are going to do drywall sanding.

As this task produces a massive amount of dust, wear a dust mask, to avoid inhaling any specks of dust, and protective eyewear, so that no dust comes in contact with your eyes. If you have a fresh cloth or a cap, use it to cover your hair as well.

Accordingly, if you have windows facing an open area, open them so that you can have a sound ventilation system; otherwise, the whole room will get cloudy and suffocating.

If you have doors that are connected to other rooms, tape the plastic sheets to the doors so that no dust can reach unwanted areas.

Similarly, cover any furniture in the room where you are working.

Step 2: Start Sanding Drywall

Attach the sandpaper to the sanding block. Join the sandpaper in a way that it is properly fitted on both ends. Take the sanding pole and attach the sander onto it. With the help of the pole, you can easily reach the ceiling and the corners of the wall without any extra effort. You can use any corner sander to sand wall corners.

Furthermore, make sure that you always keep the sanding head at an angle on the pole to avoid creating any rough surfaces on the wall. Then, start sanding the seams and joints very slowly.

Don’t put too much pressure on this area or else you will have scratches and rough marks on the wall. These will not look good once you complete your task. If you have screws in the wall, sand around them gently.

Moreover, during sanding, move the pole or the block in a circular motion to prevent any hollow from occurring in the wall. Don’t push it in a straight line constantly. For the corners, take the sanding sponge and sand the area slowly. If you have electrical boxes, apply the same procedure.

Take a flashlight and use it to check any hidden holes or uneven areas in the wall. If you find any, mark the area with a pencil. Take the drywall compound and fill these marked areas with the help of the putty knife. After that, give it time to dry. When it is dried completely, sand the area again.

Step 4: Use the Primer

Take the primer and prime the walls gently. Then sand the whole wall to eliminate any irregularly shaped areas.

Step 5: Finish it off

As you are done with the sanding portion of your project, it is time for you to finish it off by cleaning the whole room. Take the vacuum cleaner and clean the wood dust thoroughly.

Conclusion

As you have seen, this process is straightforward and time-saving. If you apply the mentioned techniques, your wall will be as smooth as you desire.

Have a good day!
